IES
Client: INSTALLATION
What
is it?
The IES Client
(with Navix or Connectix) is the Desktop Client software that is used
by each User to access and work with IES – it is also called the
User Interface. Unlike the Web Portal, which is accessed with a
browser (e.g. Internet Explorer or other), and which can also be used
to work with IES, the IES Client requires installation of some
software. The benefit in the end is a more extensive User Function
Set, i.e. you can do more with it, and it is much faster also.
Purpose
of this Document
The purpose of
this Document is to explain the simple steps required to install the
IES Client on a Workstation.
Which Objects
to use
There are 4
install objects, of which a minimum of 2 will be required: -
N1 – This
object is always installed for a new installation of IES Client, but
not usually necessary to re-install when upgrading to a new release,
unless specifically so stated on the web page where you download from.
N2 – This
object is required for a new IES Client (with Connectix) installation,
or an IES Client upgrade.
N3 – This
object is required for a new IES Client (with Navix) installation, or
an IES Client upgrade.
N4 – This
object is only required for a new installation, and ONLY if –
a)
comdlg32.ocx is absent on the install machine (old machines)
b)
comctl32.ocx is absent on the install machine (old machines)
c)
SQL functions will be used (rare), and either or both of
“msado15.dll” and “msdart.dll” are absent on the install
machine
Choosing
between N2 (Connectix) and N3 (Navix)
Navix is newer
technology than Connectix. Formerly, only Connectix was able to
negotiate Unix / Linux connections, but this is no longer the case,
and there is little to choose between the 2, except that Connectix has
Terminal Window capabilities which Navix does not, and Navix on the
other hand has a slight edge in speed over Connectix.
Hint: You may
combine a mix of Connectix and Navix sessions on the same server.
How
to Install
IES Client is
typically installed on the User’s Desktop or Laptop, but can also be
installed on a Citrix or Application Server. The procedure is the same
for each installation type, and very simple.
For each Object
to be installed, once it has been downloaded, simply double-click the
Object to start the Installation, and then choose NEXT.

The default
Installation Folder is always ‘C:\Infolab’. You may change the
Drive, or even the Folder name, as long as all the Objects are
installed to the same Folder.
The Installer
will verify Files to be installed or registered for existing presence,
and may in some cases prompt you whether to overwrite a file or not.
However, this is not a fail-safe test, since the File versions may be
dated by the time they were created on the machine rather than the
version.

Note: When you
are prompted whether to skip “navix.dll” or “connectix.ocx” it
is better NOT to skip, because the latest file may include new
features.
Once all the
objects have been installed, you need only to make a shortcut on the
Desktop, since the Installer in this case does not do it for you. Just
browse to the installation Folder, e.g. ‘Infolab’, and select the
latest IES Client program –

Your IES Client
is now ready to use. Please see the IES Client User Manual(s) for
Session Setup and How to Use.
UPGRADES
There is no
separate Upgrade Procedure for IES Client. Simply install the latest
N2 (Connectix) or N3 (NaviX)
Object Releases as for a new Install.
